Background:
	One of the type I interferons produced by fibroblasts in response to stimulation by live or inactivated virus or by double-stranded RNA. It is a cytokine with antiviral, antiproliferative, and immunomodulating activity. The synthesis of IFN-beta can be induced by common inducers of interferons, including viruses, double-stranded RNA, and micro-organisms. It is induced also by some cytokines such as TNF and IL-1 . In contrast to IFN-alpha, IFN-beta is strictly species-specific. IFN-beta of other species is inactive in human cells. IFN-beta is involved in the regulation of unspecific humoral immune responses and immune responses against viral infections. IFN-beta increases the expression of HLA class I antigens and blocks the expression of HLA class II antigens stimulated by IFN-gamma.
	Description :
	Recombinant Human Interferon-Beta 1a produced in CHO（Chinese Hamster Ovarian） cells is a single, glycosylated polypeptide chain containing 166 amino acids and having a molecular mass of 22500 Dalton. IFN-beta-1a is purified by proprietary chromatographic techniques.
	Physical Appearance:
	Sterile Filtered White lyophilized （freeze-dried） powder.
	Formulation:
	Lyophilized from 1mg/ml solution containing 91mg Human Albumin, and 620mg mannitol, and 9mg Sodium Acetate.
	Solubility:
	It is recommended to reconstitute the lyophilized Interferon beta-1a in sterile 18MΩ-cm H2O not less than 100µg/ml, which can then be further diluted to other aqueous solutions.
	Stability:
	Lyophilized IFN-beta-1a although stable at room temperature for 3 weeks, should be stored desiccated below -18 C. Upon reconstitution IFN-beta-1a should be stored at 4 C between 2-7 days and for future use below -18 C. For long term storage it is recommended to add a carrier protein （0.1% HSA or BSA）. Please avoid freeze-thaw cycles.
	Purity:
	Greater than 98.0% as determined by: （a） Analysis by RP-HPLC. （b） Anion-exchange FPLC. （c） Analysis by reducing and non-reducing SDS-PAGE Silver Stained gel.
	Amino acid sequence:
	The sequence of the first five N-terminal amino acids was determined and was found to be Met-Ser-Tyr-Asn-Leu.
	Dimers and aggregates:
	Less than 1% as determined by silver-stained SDS-PAGE gel analysis.
	Biological Activity:
	ProSpec's Interferon Beta-1a is fully biologically active when compared to standard. The specific activity as determined in a viral resistance assay （human "Wish" cell line and VSV virus or the monkey VERO cell line with EMCV virus） was found to be 270 x 10⁶ IU/ mg.
	Endotoxin:
	Less than 0.1 ng/µg （IEU/µg） of IFN-beta-1a.
	Protein content:
	Protein quantitation was carried out by two independent methods: 1. UV spectroscopy at 280 nm . 2. Analysis by RP-HPLC, using a standard solution of IFN-beta as a Reference Standard.
	Usage:
